East Coast Living

OK this east coast living is pretty strange. The traffic is weird. I mean who would have thought that driving to work on the side roads would take four times as long as taking the highway. That is never the case in Cali. My first day I thought I would be smart...yep, I found a way to avoid the highways and drive to work on the main streets. There were more cars and traffic on those streets than on the highway. It took me 40 minutes to go 10 miles. Don't you east coasters know that the highways are for driving. Apparently not. Now I just get on the freeway and I am here in less than 15 minutes.

Next...I asked my boss what time we start work around here...like 8 or 8:30. She laughed and said no way. We are apparently a late starting group. We come in around 10 AM and work until late. This makes a little sense since a large portion of our team is on the west coast. We get in a few hours before them and go home probably about the same time most of them do. The issue is that I am more of an early riser and I like to get ready and then go...not sit around and read the paper or watch the news. No problem, I think this will be a great excuse to use the gym here on campus in the mornings.

Lastly, for now, what is with these stores out here. Where are the grocery stores. Where is Safeway. All these places have really strange names. I was at the mall and didn't even recognize the department stores. BTW - what the hell is Wegmans? It sounds like something you normally need a shot to get rid of. I drive by one every morning and have no idea what it is. How about Hecht?...gesundheit. So many changes to get used to.

Ah, the adventures of moving. I love it.
