For those of you that tend to worry about me, I made it to Virginia. I have moved into my temporary housing and am settling into the area. I am on day two of my new job and so far all is well. OK, day one was 12 hours long, and I am now sure there will be no shortage of work to do in the future. Four hours of day one was spent in an orientation class, so that wasn't to bad.
I like this new company. The headquarters is great, we have two free gyms on campus and a bank. The bank has a great plan for employees so I think I will use them as my new east coast financial institution.
I spent Sunday driving in northern Arlington, the area that my real estate agent suggested. It seemed pretty cool. I don't think traffic will be too bad for me as I will be traveling reverse commute each way. Besides, it took me 40 minutes to drive the ten miles from my apartment to work on day one, how much worse can it be from Arlington. I haven't decided yet, but the neighborhood looks good at least. She has also sent me some places in Reston as well. I am more familiar with Reston, as I spent time there with my last job. It is nice, but I really wouldn't call it urban, more like suburban-urban. It is like they tried to create an urban area in the middle of suburbia. However, it is close to work.
Another observation for just four days...there are a lot of Hispanic people here. I think I heard more spanish spoken here than I ever did in the Bay Area. Now calm down, before you guys start emailing me about my racist comments, I only point this out because I tend to be attracted to Hispanic women and there are a lot of them here. Good for me I guess, but unexpected.
My cars should arrive this week and I am supposed to go apartment shopping this weekend. I love shopping. I am hoping to find a place pretty quickly, but I do have a "no rent" space for a month if I want to use it. The real trick will be how long I wait until I try and buy a place. I am told that the places west of here are not that much cheaper, but you get a lot more for your money. Problem is I am not sure I want to buy a house...to much work. A nice condo would be better, with quiet neighbors, a doorman, a washer and dryer in the apartment and a gym in the building. Sure if it is close to a store and some restaurants and bars, that would be ideal...Am I asking to much?
