Update on Job Interview

OK my day from hell continued. I went to the airport to catch the redeye flight and it turns out that it was delayed by an hour. It was a four and a half hour flight of which I slept for about 2…maybe. I landed, went out to catch a cab to my hotel – yes I was going to check in at 7:30 AM and check out at 11:30 AM the same day. Unfortunately my dumb ass taxi driver took me to the wrong Embassy Suites hotel, so I had to wait an additional 15 minutes for another cab and take a 20 minute ride to the right hotel. I checked in, took a nap for 90 minutes and then got ready to go.

Was I tired? You bet. How did the interview go? Great. I met with three people and I thought all three interviews went well. The most important probably being the one with the SVP of the group. They have been looking to fill this role for a while, but are having problems finding someone with the right personality and background. You see, this is a new role and the responsibilities are primarily undefined. Many people don't like those types of situations. I do. This would be about the fourth time I have stepped into this type of position. I am excited and hopefully will have some good news soon.

I have one final phone interview tomorrow afternoon, but I honestly believe they will offer me a position. Now all we need to do is agree on the terms. Then I will need to lean on some fo you to help me figure out where to live and where not to live. I have done some research, but the prices vary so much out there that I am not sure what areas I should stay away from.

By the way, I was waiting between interviews and looking out the window from the fifth floor and I realized what appeals to me in that area…open spaces. You see trees and grass and open fields back east. Now granted the grass was dormant yellow and most of the trees just look like giant twigs right now, but you never see that type of area in California unless it is a national park. Any open space here has pretty much had a house built on it. Now don’t get me wrong, I am not really the open space kind of guy. It is not like I want to go camping any time soon. I like the city and the city life. To me, open spaces represent less population. It is the crowds I can’t stand on the west coast. Additionally, the east coast is one area in the states that I have never really experienced except in small doses and I am looking forward to the change.
