My Favorite Cat

We were living in Fresno one night we had walked up to the local microbrew. On the way home, while walking through the quiet, dark streets, my ex tripped over something. We looked down and it turned out to be a little kitten. He looked to be in good health and well taken care of. I picked him up and petted him for a few minutes. We figured he lived in one of the houses near by so I put him down and told him to go home. We continued on our way and needless to say he followed us home.

He came home with us and the next day I put up some signs as I was sure that someone would claim this beautiful kitten. Well, no one did, so we adopted him. We took him to the vet, and found out he was somewhere around 8 weeks old. We got him fixed and he became part of our family. We soon named him Sneaky Pete as he was always sneaking up on you and attacking. He fit right into the family and soon spent his days sleeping on top of my bird cage and fighting with our daschund, Pudgy. I loved this cat.

Sneaky Pete

I got some bad news last night. Petey moved with my ex up to her ranch, along with Misty, another adopted stray, when we split up. He has lived up there on the 5 acres for the last few years. A few weeks ago another stray started coming around, a female, and Petey became enamored with her. Then one day they were both just gone. No sign of either of them. His collar was found, but there was no apparent sign of struggle. My ex placed signs around the neighborhood, with no response.

I would like to think that Petey just fell in love and decided he needed to be with this new stray. I would like to believe that they are out there living the Disney dream like Lady and the Tramp. Unfortunately, the reality of the situation is that my ex lives in an area with much wild life. It is more likely that this great cat was done in by a coyote or some other wild animal. I have missed Petey since the break up and now it looks like I won’t ever see him again.
