Quite Possibly the Most Boring Post Ever

I want to warn you all that this post long and is not funny, scary or even mildly interesting so skip it if you have ANYTHING better to do. If you decide to skip this post, at least visit Mrs. Mogul’s site as she IS interesting and funny.

I realized that I did not post anything yesterday and felt like I needed to write something today. So here you go. I was on Mrs. Mogul’s site yesterday and she asked the all important question, have we ever shoplifted anything. First I would like to say if you are not reading her site, then you are missing out. She is a very funny New Yorker living in London, which makes for some funny shat.

Anyway, I wrote in her comment box about the time I was 8 and shoplifted some candy at the 7-11. It was actually me and a buddy on the way home from little league. He got caught and I got away. But I remember hanging out in the bushes and watching as the police came and took him away. Well they actually just took him home, not like he ended up doing time in San Quentin, at least not for this. It was a very scary ride home for me. I remember taking the back roads home and watching my house for a while to make sure that the police didn’t show up. Turns out my buddy never ratted me out and I never got in trouble. However, the experience left a lasting impression on me and I have pretty much walked the straight and narrow ever since. Until now.

I have been feeling guilty about something lately. I am not Catholic or I would go see my priest. I am not Jewish or I would speak with my Rabbi. I went to a Lutheran church when I was a kid, but I have not been in a church for something other than a wedding or a funeral since I was a lad. It seems so hypocritical to go there for the lone purpose of confessing a single sin. Since you guys are like my therapists, my conscience, the sounding board of my life and just for MartiniLove – my peeps, I thought I would confess my sin. So here goes…

Forgive me Bloggers for I have sinned. It has been forever since my last confession. I recently did something that has me feeling guilty, but before I tell you what I did I feel I need to explain some of the back story. My way of rationalizing my sin. You see, I bought a Compaq computer about 3 years ago. This is not an endorsement – far from it. Anyway, my PC came with two USB ports in the front of the machine. Shortly after bringing my PC home, I realized that the two ports in the front did not work. Now, I know I should have taken the PC back or even opened it to figure out why it was broken, but there were USB ports on the rear of the machine that did work so it did not seem that important. Skip ahead a few years.

About 6 months ago I had reason to open my PC and I realized why the 2 USB ports did not work in the front of my machine. The cable that was supposed to connect the USB board to my motherboard was missing. Not broken or unconnected, but missing all together.

This got me started on the quest to get these ports working. A few years late, but motivated none the less. I stated on the Compaq website. I looked up my model and the parts list. The cable was not on it. I called their customer service and spoke to no less than six people about my issue. None of them could tell me the name of the cable, let alone a part number or a manufacturer where I could get one. You see I wasn’t even concerned with paying for the replacement as much as just getting one. Next I went to Radio Shack, Best Buy and finally Fry’s. If it is electronic, you can usually find it at Fry’s. None of these people had a cable that would work nor did they even have the connectors so I could build my own. I am pretty good at that stuff.

Next I started looking on the Internet. But since I did not have a name or a part number it was difficult. I looked for a few days when I finally found something that might actually work. You see the difficulty was that computer companies no longer used this set up so finding a replacement was difficult. Once I found this cable, I realized that it was $20.00 for the cable and another $12.00 to ship it. Even though I needed more USB ports on my machine, I said fick that shat I ain’t paying $32.00 I can get a new card with more ports for less than that. So that is what I set out to do. Don’t worry I am getting to the end of this boring story.

I looked around, and finally settled on a media card reader, which I needed, that also has some USB ports in it that I saw on the Best Buy website for $30.00. It replaces the floppy drive in the computer which I never use. So I went to BB to purchase this new drive. Unfortunately, they do not sell this in the store and the ones they have are almost three times as much. I asked and they said I could order the item from the website while in the store. So I did.

While I was in the store, I also bought a new all in one printer (scanner, fax, copier you know). When I got it home I found out it also had all of the media slots built in, so you can put your memory stick directly into the printer and print pictures. I discovered that I could access any of the media cards inserted in the printer from my PC so I would not need the media card reader I ordered. I still had the problem of needing some more USB ports though.

When the media card reader arrived I opened it knowing full well that I was probably going to return it. I wanted to see how it connected up and if it would work in my machine. Guess what. It used the same cable that I needed for the USB ports all ready installed in my machine. Can you guess what I did next? That’s right. I returned the media card reader and kept the cable. I told them the cable was missing when I opened the package. I know it was wrong, but somehow it felt like karma. This cable was supposed to be installed in my machine by the factory, it wasn’t and now one was delivered to me.

The problem is that now guilt of stealing this cable is plaguing me. I need absolution. I am ready to serve my penance. Tell me, my peeps, what do I need to do in order to be absolved of my sin?

I warned you not to read this!!!
