Am I the only one who thinks the whole idea of car pool lanes sucks. I know it is suppose to be good for the environment and all...but come on. Just like most things in this country, car pool lanes are designed to help 5% of the people and the other 95% get screwed. I am not sure how they convinced anyone that these lanes were a good idea. Most people DON'T HAVE THE OPTION to carpool. So we are stuck in the traffic moving at 2 mph and those few people who can use the lane get to speed by at 100 mph. I actually travel in the reverse commute direction, if that exists in the Bay Area, and still get stuck in traffic every day. Guess where - right before the damn car pool lane starts. I am no physicist, but I think common sense would tell you that if you design a highway system where 5 lanes of cars have to squeeze into 3 lanes, you are going to get a slow down. What were they thinking. Traffic would move faster if they just left all the lanes open to everyone.
Not sure if they are doing this everywhere, but they are even starting to discriminate against the 2 people in the car drivers here. Some of the car pool lanes are only available to people with 3 or more in the car. Now even less of the masses gets to use the car pool lane. Worst of all is that this new change is on the most congested freeway in the Bay Area. Another brilliant idea...probably hatched up by someone who works from home. Rant Over
