What Does Your Heart Say?

I got this from the Washington Post last weekend and decided to fill it out and share with the rest of you. You just have to complete the sentence.

  • Your first love…usually happens when you are too young to appreciate or understand it. Your first love should be unconditional, like the love of the puppy you got when you were eight and not the pimple faced kid you dated in high school.
  • Love at first site…happens the first time you open your eyes and see you mother. Let’s face it, the rest of the time it is LUST at first site. You can’t love someone until you get to know them.
  • After a breakup, never…forget the reasons things didn’t work out. We all see past relationships through rose colored glasses. Remember that there were cracks in the lenses when you were together.
  • The best part…of meeting someone new is all the uncertainty around getting to know them. Love is a mystery that we all want to be a part of.
  • The longer you are with someone…the easier it is to take them for granted. You have to work at relationships, especially as more time passes.
  • They say you know when you know. I think that’s…crazy. You THINK you know when you know, you can never really know. Nothing is certain in this world.
  • Fairy tales tend to leave out the part…that’s real, that’s why they are fairy tails. There is a lot of unhappy that has to be dealt with in order to have a happy ending.
  • You can never predict…what life has in store for the two of you. Be patient, be caring and most important be in it together.
  • I wish I’d known when I was 19 that…women are auditory, I’m allergic to pets, Microsoft stock would be worth so much, the difference between love and sex, and many, many other things.
  • When it comes to relationships, people tend to underestimate…how long forever really is. It takes more than love to make a relationship last forever.
  • When things get really bad…remember that a bad settlement is better than a good win in court. If it has to end, then end it without lawyers. Remember that you loved each other once.
  • The most romantic…gestures should happen more than on holidays. Gestures aren’t romantic on holidays, they are expected. Romance should never be expected, it should be a surprise.
  • Heartache is…the beginning of the healing process. Use that time for reflection and try to learn from your mistakes. Heal and then move on.
  • Valentine’s Day…is a really good excuse to stay home and enjoy a night in together.
  • It’s time to call it quits when…it’s over. Don’t give up to easily, but learn when to walk away. Don’t wake up five years later wondering what the hell you are doing here.
  • In the end, what’s most important is…that life is about the journey and not the destination. Life is long and we always have time to start over.

How would you finish these sentences?

My Five Questions

The fabulous Lily asked me five questions.

1. Why don’t you like to camp? Yes… I’m asking.

I think it goes back to when I was a kid. I only went camping a few times, but one of them almost ended in disaster. I was camping with my Aunt and her family and the weather was bad one night. We were all sleeping in the RV, instead of tents, and they had a gas heater on. The flame went out and the RV filled with gas. If one of the adults hadn’t woken up, we never would have. I never enjoyed it as much after that. Besides, I don’t like sleeping in a tent on the ground, using a common bathroom or the woods, or bathing in a stream. I do enjoy good cooked meals over the fire though. Maybe there is hope for me yet.

2. Hit shuffle on your iPod and tell me the first 5 songs that come on…

I have 678 songs on my iPod right now, but here goes.
1. Van Morrison – Someone Like You
2. Santana – Put Your Lights On
3. Michael BublĂ© – Fever
4. Matchbox Twenty – Push
5. The Cure – Friday I’m in Love

3. If you won 1 million dollars… who would you call first and what would you say?

I would call my son, Nick and let him know we were going to have a lot of fun in Europe later this year and we aren’t coming back for a long time. And that he can now pick any school he wants to finish his college education.

4. 250 rounds of golf in one year? Did you do anything else? Eat? Sleep? Tell me about it…

Believe it or not, I worked a regular job. I was lucky that my ex did not mind me playing on the weekends, well maybe she did and that is why she is my ex. I had friends who worked in the golf industry and they would call up and ask if I wanted to go play this country club or that golf course at 1 PM…how could I say no. My game was very good then and I thought I might get to play in the US Amateur or US Mid-Am. I almost made both one year. Still a dream I would like to come true, but I don’t have time to play enough to get that good anymore.

5. Lame trivia question: who is the only actor to be credited in all 5 Star Trek series?

Actually, this is a really good trivia question. Majel Barrett is the only actor to have been involved with all five of the television series. Most people don’t know that she was the wife of the Star Trek creator, Gene Roddenberry. She played Nurse Chapel in the original, but is probably better known for her roles as Lwaxana Troi (Deanna’s mother) in The Next Generation. One other piece of information, she is also the voice of the computer in most of the series. Wow, I know way to much about this series...damn you dad.

Hidden Talents

Emptyman had this on his web site. I thought I would respond here. I encourage you to come up with your own answers.

Your Six Secret Skills

So let's hear your six secret skills. Things you can do that not everybody knows about. Talents that surprise people when they find out you have them. Not bits of history like meeting Alex Trebeck, not innate characteristics like being ambidextrous, but actual hidden abilities you have acquired. Your secret super-powers, if you will.

Ok Emptyman, here are mine.

Talents:
1. I am good at every sport I have ever tried. I am always the best on my team at everything.
2. I can play Spades, Hearts, Cribbage, Euchre, Pinnacle and Gin better than you.
3. I learn everything technical very quickly - no matter what it is. This is how I make a living.
4. I can cook very good Italian food. I am not Italian. Four years doing it in high school helps.
5. I can quote lines from every good movie from the 80's. I own and watch them all.
6. Arm wrestle - in my whole life I have been beat twice. I don't look that strong so no one ever believes me until I beat them.

The flip side: six things that people often assume you can do, but can't.

1. I can't float and can barely swim. Everyone thinks because I was in the Navy that I am a frogman.
2. I don't know a lot about computers. I fake it well (see #3 above).
3. I have no artistic ability. I can't sing, play an instrument, draw or paint. I think they assume I can because most of my family can.
4. I can't tend bar - I know all kinds of drinks and know all about bartending (married to one for years). People just assume I have tended bar.
5. I don't know a lot about cars. I guess in the ghetto we are supposed to know all about cars.
6. I can't speak any other languages. I have traveled a lot and people assume I can speak another language...they speak English everywhere. Why do I need to speak another language.

A quote for all those 80's movie nuts:
"Relax, alright, my old man is a television repairman. He has this ultimate set of tools. I can fix it."
