Have you ever noticed...

...that you never see a car that is meant to be driven fast pulled over and getting a ticket by a cop? I mean when was the last time you saw a Porsche, Ferrari or Lamborghini pulled over for speeding. I think that the police tend to look the other way when these cars break the speed limit. As someone who owns a high end sports car and drives by police officers exceeding the speed limit pretty much daily, I have come to believe they just accept that these cars are going to speed.

OK, this theory pretty much doesn’t work in my home town, The Ghetto. But then again if a Porsche or Ferrari ever drove through my neighborhood, the police would have to pull them over. I mean, let’s face it, that car is stolen. But other than my old neighborhood, I pretty much have never seen a Porsche pulled over. Do you think it is because Porsche owners do the speed limit? Not likely. The last time I drove a 911, I pretty much needed to leave it in second gear to obey the speed limit, and how many Porsche drivers do you think never take their car out of second gear.

You are probably wondering where I am going with this. I just think it seems very illogical for the police to let these high end sports car owners speed and never pull them over. I mean aren’t speeding tickets a main source of revenue for most cities and states. Earlier this year, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger ordered the Highway Patrol in California to pull over as many people in the month of March as they could. They figured it was worth about 10 million in extra revenue for the state. So why avoid the high end automobiles, as they seem more likely to be able to afford to pay these tickets, I will tell you why, because they have money. And we never make people who have money pay their share in this country.

In searching my memory, I pretty much can only think of three types of cars that I have ever seen pulled over for speeding. The mini van, because the soccer moms and dads of this world, with their dual incomes and 2.3 children, can definitely afford to pay for that speeding ticket. I mean they could use that money to make sure that their kids have clothes or food or say a college education, but giving it to the government is probably better. Then there is the middle class sedan, you know the basic Honda. Because, well, the middle class pay for everything in this country. And lastly, the piece of shit car that is driving with it’s windows down in 100 degree weather with 6 minorities in the car. They are all working minimum wage jobs that the average American would never do, so I am sure paying that speeding ticket is no hardship.

Don’t get me wrong, I like the idea that I am pretty much safe to drive my car the way it was meant to be driven with little chance of reprisal. I just wonder how many more things in this country we can let the wealthy get away with. Oh, and this also explains why people have those bumper stickers on their SUV that says, My Other Car Is a Porsche. But wouldn’t it make more sense to have a bumper sticker that says, I’m Rich And You’re Not – Thanks For Picking Up The Tab.
