They moved my SF office this week. It moved about three blocks. OK in the city that can be a long way, but it is the same subway stop with a different exit to the street and then a one block walk. This office is also on the 15th floor. My old one was at street level. Now at first glance, most people would think, wow, 15th floor that must be nice, you get a great view. Well that is true, but as I have come to realize in the two days I have been here, there are some drawbacks to being on the 15th floor vs. street level. First, if you decide to go stretch your legs and get a cup of coffee, it’s takes more than a few minutes. It takes a while to go down 15 floors and then exit the building. This is also a more secure building, so entering and exiting is a little more time consuming. Not only that, but if you go downstairs and suddenly realize it is chilly and you should have brought your jacket, you can’t exactly run back to the office and get your coat.
On top of that, I now have to find a new place to get my sugar free SoBe and fruit cup for breakfast in the morning. I walk in a different direction and all the coffee and breakfast places are new and different. So far, no luck finding what will become my regular spot. Of course, you can’t throw a rock in the city without hitting one of the three major coffee places, Starbucks, Tullys or Peets. There are more than a couple within a block or two of my new office. I will have to try them all until I find the place that serves what I like.
On a different note, I have been invited to a bachelor party this weekend. Nice for me. The groom is a friend of my sisters and I have come to know the bride a bit while accompanying my sister to her hang out so she can karaoke (is karaoke a verb, I think so). The bride invited me to her bachelorette party last weekend, but I declined to go as I thought I needed to break my image of being just one of the girls. It's a strange story, but I was the only guy at one of the candle parties and I somehow bonded with the ladies at the party and I think they think of me as one of the girls. Believe me, I never felt so gay, but I do like the candles. I am actually trying to get my mom and sister to host a pampered chef party so I can get some stuff for the kitchen. Maybe I am one of the girls. Could I be gay? Nah, I like a good rack way too much.
I‘ve also downloaded the latest DMB album and have been listening to it for a few days in preparation for the concert next month. It is pretty good. I would recommend it, in case you're interested. It should be a good show and a great day. All the siblings are in and we are planning to head north early and enjoy the stifling temperatures on the lawn. The venue has some weird rules concerning what you can bring in with you. Only unopened plastic bottles, no ice chests, food in see through bags etc. Anyone have any ideas how a Sagittarius drunkard can sneak in some booze? Give me your best ideas.
Lastly, I have a piece of fashion advice for all you professional women. Now I am usually the last person to give fashion advice, although I am always dressed well, but one thing in my office has been driving me crazy lately. It is the clop, clop, clop of the sandals that a few of the women in my office seem to wear everyday. I hadn’t noticed the new sand in the office, so please put on a pair of shoes and leave the beach footwear at home. It's a rather annoying sound and does not look very professional at all. I actually have a few women in the office who dress like they are on their way to the beach, baggy clothes and sandals. I am sure they have a bikini on underneath their clothes (although that is a scary mental image). I think people would question me if I showed up to work up in khakis, an island print shirt and a pair of flip-flops. I mean we are not selling surf boards or maitais here. Mmmmm…a maitia sounds good right now. Is it happy hour, or even noon, yet? On that note, have a great weekend all. Maitais for everyone, on me.
