Well, I did go to the gym today. I think the pressure of writing I was going to in my blog was enough to make me go. I am not sure I like this gym, but then again I have a 10 day free pass, so it is not costing me anything. Of course, I had to sit through 30 minutes of questions and a tour of the facility, guess I can't expect something for nothing. After that I actually got to work out. Keeping it light to begin with...15 minutes on bike, couple laps through the circuit training and another 15 minutes on the bike. Don't want to hurt myself the first day.
Being Saturday, and the fact that this gym is in the mall (one of the things I don't like about it), the gym was pretty crowded. I thought back to all of the posts that I have read about the gym lately and I remembered one of the ladies, NYC Beauty, wrote about girls who just wear a sports bra to work out. I did not see too many like that in the gym, but I did notice the few who chose that attire, needed much more than a sports bra. It's never the girls who can get away with wearing only a sports bra at the gym, who do. Now I am not getting on anyone for being out of shape, because, well you know kettle, pot, black. But I follow the sage wisdom I once heard from Drew Carey, long before he was famous, and I dress for my body size. I am the first to admit I am out of shape, painfully proven when I stepped on the scale at the gym today, but I am not walking around the gym in a speedo...really bad mental image there...for me.
I have to choose between this gym and another one in town that is more of a athletic club. The athletic club has a nice pool, tennis courts (don't play), racquetball (would probably die after 5 minutes) as well as all the gym crap you need. It is a little more expensive, but I may feel more comfortable there, because I am basically a snob and working out in the ghetto reminds me of all those prison yard movie scenes.
Speaking of being a snob, I was on my way to the gym today and I saw a hot girl sitting at the bus stop. Well, she wasn't so much hot as she was ghetto hot. Ghetto hot is sort of tough to explain, I think you have to have lived in a ghetto to truly understand the difference. Anyway, this is really not about her. I started to wonder when was the last time I took public transportation anywhere. I am not sure I can count the times I am in NYC and I take the subway. I mean no one there has a car, your only choice is public transportation or a cab. I don't think taking the muni train to some event so I can avoid traffic and parking issue counts either. That pretty much eliminates my public transportation rides since, say, high school.
I used to take the bus home from high school as a freshman, until I realized it was more dangerous than walking home, ok running sometimes. As I drove by hot ghetto girl, I started to wonder am I to good for public transportation or do only those people with no other options use public transportation? I could take BART to work every day, sure it would take me 15 minutes longer, maybe more. But I own a car, why would I take the train or, heaven forbid, a bus anywhere.
I don't know. Is it just me? Am I a Public Transportation Snob? Do any of you take the bus just because? It is scary the things that go through your mind while you are tring to find a good excuse to skip the whole gym thing.
