I am not sure if I have mentioned this before, but I am currently a contractor for one of the major telecom companies. I started here at the beginning of the year on a three month project. Three months is pretty short, but the money was good and I was tired of sitting at home and watching Dawson's Creek reruns - that series ender was a real tear jerker.
The company was bought a while back and that pretty much destroyed the project I was working on (not really giving away the company as there are three telecom mergers going on right now). I figured they would lay me off right away. I mean why pay me and my fellow contractors to do nothing, or almost nothing. Well, they decided to keep us around while the project went through a re-plan. They still plan on doing it, but I did not think they would get around to it till late this year.
Today, I saw an email from my boss’s boss stating for them to extend all of our contracts through the end of the year. Till the end of the year? I was only supposed to work through March, now they want me through the end of the year. Of course they can cancel my contract at any time, with one day's notice. Aren't I a shrewd negotiator? But all evidence seems to indicate they will not do that. I had actually planned to move to the east coast after this contract (I am a wandering soul). I have lived in a lot of places and I have always wanted to try NY. Now it looks like I may be gainfully employed here for the rest of 2005.
I am really not sure how I feel about this right now. I guess I should stop complaining considering the post I did a while back. Do I sound like I am complaining? I guess it means I will have 10 more months of traffic jams and carpool issues. Well, at least my ex-wife will be happy.

You mean we have to wait 10 months until you're on the East Coast??? Sheesh. That sucks. Considering I could drive to New York! Ha! Just kidding! You're a STRANGER. But you do know html...
